The Assistant Head of Translation Services at Musbak Translation Bureau in person of Muslim Abdul-mujeeb Amobi ably represent the CEO of MUSBAK Translation Bureau at the 21st NITI Conference. The keynote Speaker Of the event, Professor RAHEEM ADEBAYO LAWAL, a Professor in the field of languages and translation and also the pioneer Vice chancellor of UNIVERSITY OF OFFA, pinpointed MISTRANSLATION, DISTRANSLATION AND UNSTRANSLATABILILTY as key Challenges in the translation Industries.
For the knowledge and benefits of you reading this, a text would be said to have been mistranslated when it’s meaning is not within the cognitive capacity of the translator even when he or she possesses the required knowledge in the linguistics and sociolinguistic of both the source and target languages.
As for the second challenge he highlighted, what he meant by the term DISTRANSLATION is just a deliberate distortion of meaning of a word or sentence in the process of translation.Classical Examples of this can be seen in various translation of Bibles nowadays where some Translators will deliberately translate wrongfully just to protect and preserve their own personal interests.
The third and the last of these challenges we are facing in the field of translation is UNSTRANSLATABILILTY of some words. That is, some words are unstranslatable i.e there’s no way you will translate them to perfectly reflect the true meaning that the original language owner gave to it, thus the best and most proper way to translate such word is to leave it the way it’s in it’s original language. To mention but few, words like AMALA, ADEBAYO, AMOBI. these are few among others.
